Replacing / Inserting A New Hard Disk Drive

This step-by-step guide will help the novice computer user install a new SATA hard disk drive into a computer.

  1. Unplug the computer from the power.
  2. Take the screws out of the computer side.
  3. Lift the cover off, and place out of the way.
  4. Wearing an electrostatic bracelet, pick the hard drive out of it's box and plug the data (smaller) cable into the device
  5. Now plug the power (bigger) cable into the device. You may now remove the electrostatic bracelet.
  6. Place the Hard Drive in a bay inside the computer, and screw in.
  7. Place the cover back on the computer and screw in.
  8. You may now power the computer back on.
The connection on the left is the power, and the connection on the right is the data.
